Maths

Vision

Our Mathematics Curriculum is designed to ensure that Meadowhead students:

  • Develop fluent, independent use of mathematical skills to solve problems
  • build confidence and fluency in mathematical skills and to make connections between different strands
  • Build on previously learnt knowledge to recap and stretch understanding and apply known skills in new ways

Since the beginning of recorded history, mathematic discovery has been at the forefront of every civilized society, and in use in even the most primitive of cultures. The needs of mathematics arose based on the wants of society. The more complex a society, the more complex the mathematical needs. Today, Mathematics is part of everything we do and as such, it is a vital life skill for students leaving school.

  • We offer the junior and intermediate Maths challenge to our higher attaining students in Y7-11
  • We take teams for KS3/KS4 and KS5 to the Sheffield Hallam Pop Maths each year
  • We take a group of girls to Sheffield Hallam each year for their Girls in Maths day
  • We have taken students to be involved in the Faraday challenge, had teams compete in the University of Southampton National Cypher Challenge and we regularly have teams entered for the Student Investor Challenge where they try their hand at the stock markets!
