Year 9 AW 1 Information

 

English

Blood Brothers

You will have a short quiz on character quotes and key vocabulary from the knowledge organiser followed by a choice of essay questions on Blood Brothers. Make sure you know about social class, Violence, Mrs Johnstone, Mrs Lyons, Mickey,

and Eddie

Ethics

You will be assessed on the Islam and Good and Evil units we have covered in our lessons.

French

A 40-minute listening paper, which will include content from Y9

HT1 and some retrieval of Y7 and Y8 topics.

 

 

Geography

A 40-mark written paper including a combination of short answer knowledge and skills questions (including map and graph skills), alongside longer knowledge and understanding questions.

Section A – Key definitions from units covered in Y7-Y9. Section B – Plate tectonics including plate boundaries, earthquakes, and volcanoes.

Section C – Global Power, including characteristics of superpowers and potential superpowers

German

A 40-minute listening paper, which will include content from Y9

HT1 and some retrieval of Y7 and Y8 topics.

 

 

History

A 50-minute assessment covering work studied since the beginning of Y9 (Causes of WWI, experiences of WWI and WWII Significant Events).

Use the Knowledge Organisers for each topic and your notes in your exercise books. There are 5 sections:

20 multiple choice knowledge questions 10 key word gap fill

10 events to complete on a timeline 4 short questions 4-marks each

Maths

A 50-minute assessment covering topics studied since the

beginning of Y9. Calculator allowed if you bring one. 60 marks

 

Science

There are 3 tests, each of length 40 minutes. Topics assessed are:

B1a – Cell structure C1a – Atomic structure

P1a – Energy: stores and transfers

Spanish

A 40-minute listening paper, which will include content from Y9

HT1 and some retrieval of Y7 and Y8 topics.

Year 9 AW 2 Information

 

 

English

A piece of creative writing – a short story (or the opening to a story) about a Sheffielder.

They have prepared this in class, including planning and drafting, and they have produced one A4 sheet of notes to support their writing. They can use this to revise/prepare and can also take it with them.

You should be revising the creative writing skills from the creative writing unit, and going over your notes, practising writing in timed conditions, drafting and improving your work.

 

French

A 40-minute reading paper covering topics from Y9: Family friends and relationships.

Free time activities.

School subjects and school life.

 

 

Geography

There will be a mix of short answers (including knowledge and skills) and longer written answers to assess understanding and evaluative skills on the following topics:

  • Why are some tectonic hazards deadlier than others?
  • Who will win the race to be Asia's next superpower?
  • Why are oceans important?
  • How does ice shape the land?

 

German

A 40-minute reading paper covering topics from Y9: Family friends and relationships.

Free time activities.

School subjects and school life.

 

History

The assessment will consist of 20 Multiple Choice Questions, Keyword gap-fill, 10 dates to sort on a timeline, and four 4-mark questions.

Topics: The Holocaust, Communism's impact on the world.

Maths

A 1-hour calculator paper covering topics from Y7-9.

A 1-hour non-calculator paper covering topics from Y7-9. A revision list will be provided.

 

Science

3 tests of 40 marks.

Biology assessment: B2a - Organisation

Chemistry assessment: C2 - Bonding, structure and properties of matter

Physics assessment - P2 – Electricity

 

Spanish

A 40-minute reading paper covering topics from Y9: Family friends and relationships.
