Chemistry Resources

Websites

https://chemguide.co.uk/
After you’ve learned something in class, you can go to ChemGuide and read the correct section about it. This is the site with the best explanations I’ve ever found and it will help you to understand new ideas really thoroughly.

Molecule of the Month has been running since 1996, which means there are a whole lot of molecules here. Great science and quite entertaining.

Podcasts

https://www.chemistryworld.com/podcasts
This is a really good site with loads of interesting little stories about weird elements, new discoveries or uses of chemistry. Also has a book club where they talk about new popular science books, so might give you ideas of something you’d like to read.

https://edu.rsc.org/uk-chemistry-olympiad/
In Year 13 you will have the opportunity to participate in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad, which is a written exam that tests your chemistry skills and ability to apply them to unfamiliar contexts. You can prepare for this by having a look at some of the RSC materials such as past papers, mark schemes and the support booklet.

Videos

https://www.youtube.com/channel/
This Youtube channel has lots of revision videos to help you go over topics. The ones I’ve seen have been really good so if you find one that you think has a mistake in it then please let me know!

http://www.periodicvideos.com/
There’s a video for every single element! (Some of them are better than others). They also have videos on lots of other chemistry topics. Features a chemistry professor with genuine mad scientist hair.

Online lectures/courses

https://www.york.ac.uk/study/moocs/exploring-everyday-chemistry/
A free online course that is really suitable for A-level students. The assessment and certificate would need paying for but you can do the course for free.

https://chemistryhall.com/best-online-chemistry-lectures/
Nothing to watch? Enjoy one of these specially selected chemistry lectures on a whole range of topics. Some are entertaining and others are a bit more educational so not quite as fun, but all worth a look.

https://www.futurelearn.com/subjects/science-engineering-and-maths-courses/chemistry
A range of online courses designed to extend your knowledge and bridge the gap between A-level and university. Some of these are free whilst others need paying for.
