Governance Information

Trustees

Meadowhead School is a Single Academy Trust. The trustees of the academy trust are both charity trustees and company directors. The term “trustee” is interchangeable with the term governor.

In trusts, the purpose of governance is to provide:

  • strategic leadership
  • accountability and assurance
  • strategic engagement

Information about the role of those involved in trust governance can be found in the Academy Trust Governance Guide, as well as the Academy Trust Handbook.

The board has collective accountability and strategic responsibility for the trust. It has a focus on ensuring the trust delivers an excellent education to pupils while maintaining effective financial management and must ensure compliance with:

  • the trust’s charitable objects
  • regulatory, contractual and statutory requirements
  • their funding agreement

The board provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools through three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Body of Meadowhead School Academy Trust

The Governing Body of Meadowhead School consists of elected Parent Trustees, elected Staff representatives (who do not have voting rights), Community Trustees appointed by the Governing Body, Foundation Trustees who are appointed by Meadowhead Together (formally known as the Meadowhead Community Learning Trust - MCLT) and the Headteacher.

Members of the Senior Leadership Team may attend meetings as presenters; they have no rights to vote.

The board of trustees/governing body meets once each term and operates with the following sub-committees with delegated powers:

  • Pupils
  • Teaching & Achievement
  • Finance & Resources

Each sub-committee also meets once each term and each committee has a different Chair.

Other statutory or non-statutory committees may also be convened as necessary, for example the Governing Body Disciplinary Committee, Pay Committee and Appeals Panels if required.

Trustees are volunteers who give freely their time and expertise and are committed to supporting the school in its attempts to consistently improve the quality of the education offered to Meadowhead students and raise standards of student performance. This is done by providing strategic direction, acting as a critical friend and accepting accountability for the performance of the school.

With the exception of the Headteacher, trustees generally serve a term of 4 years, after which they may be re-elected or re-appointed.
