BTEC Sport Level 3 – National Diploma in Sport

Our Vision

 

This is intended as an Applied General qualification, equivalent in size to two  A Levels. It has been designed as part of a two-year programme, normally in conjunction with one or more qualifications at Level 3. This qualification is aimed at learners looking to progress to higher education in this sector.

Subject Summary

720 GLH. Equivalent in size to two A Levels. 9 units of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external. Mandatory content (75%). External assessment (45%)

Unit 1 (exam)- Anatomy and Physiology:                                    

Skeleton, joints and muscles - Effects of exercise on the body systems. Long and short-term effects

 

Unit 22 – Investigating Business in Sport and Leisure Activity: Knowledge and understanding of sport and active leisure business operations and how to respond to trends and internal and external influences

 

Unit 7 – Practical Sport:

Practical sports performance- practical performance in 2 sports - rules and regulations, techniques and tactics

 

Unit 17 – Injury in Sport:

Understand common sports injuries and their associated physiological and psychological responses.

Unit 2 (Synopsis)- Fitness testing and training - Lifestyle factors

 

Unit 3 Professional Development:

Understand the career and job opportunities in the sports industry

 

Unit 23 – Skill Acquisition in Sport:

Investigate the nature of skilled performance

 

Unit 25 – Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport:

Understand the development of the roles and responsibilities of the officials involved in sport

Understand the roles, qualities and characteristics of an effective sports leader

Practical sports performance- demonstrate skills, techniques and tactics in 2 sports

 

Unit 17 – Injury in Sport:

Explore common treatment and rehabilitation methods

Unit 2 (Synopsis)- Fitness testing and training - Fitness testing and screening. Diet and nutrition

 

Unit 3 Professional Development:

Explore own skills using a skills audit to inform a career development action plan

 

Unit 23 – Skill Acquisition in Sport:

Examine ways that sport performers process information for skilled performance

 

Unit 25 – Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport:

Explore the performance of officials in a selected sport

 

Unit 4 – Sports Leadership:

Examine the importance of psychological factors and their link with effective leadership.

Recommendations and justification for improvements to a business

 

Unit 7 – Practical Sport:

Practical sports performance- analyse own performance and make recommendations to improve using different assessment methods

 

Unit 17 – Injury in Sport: Investigate risk factors which may contribute to sports injuries and their associated prevention strategies.

Unit 2 (Synopsis)- Fitness testing and training - training methods and principles of training

 

Unit 3 Professional Development:

Undertake a recruitment activity to demonstrate the processes that can lead to a successful job offer. Reflect on the recruitment.

 

Unit 23 – Skill Acquisition in Sport:

Explore theories of teaching and learning in sport and carry them out.

 

Unit 25 – Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport: Undertake the role of a match official in a competitive sport.

 

Unit 4 – Sports Leadership:

Explore an effective leadership style when leading a team during sport and exercise activities.
