ESAA National Cross Country Championships

Amongst the team representing South Yorkshire in the National Cross Country Championships at Castle Donington, just a quarter of a mile from East Midlands Airport, were two athletes from Meadowhead. These were Joseph Newman-Billington of Year 9 and Jonathan Shields of Year 11 who had both qualified for the county team following their 2nd place finish in the South Yorkshire Championships.

First up was Joe who came flying out of the blocks and settled into about 30th place and was becoming stronger as the race progressed. However, due to an incredibly unfortunate accident which involved loose barrier tape wrapping itself around his legs and preventing him from being able to move, Joe finished in 79th place but he kept on going and still ran a great race.

The next Meadowhead runner, Jonathan, came charging out of his pen and ran a magnificent race, holding his position around the mid-twenties position throughout the race and finishing in a brilliant 26th place.
