Y9 vs Shafton ALC

Hoping to reach their third successive South Yorkshire Cup Final in a row, Meadowhead’s Y9s hosted Shafton ALC in the first of the two semi-finals. With a strong wind behind them, Meadowhead knew that they had to make the first half count and they did exactly that when Ben Hulton scored his 5th goal in three matches to put us 1-0 up.

Following some good pressure from the opposition which forcing a strong hand from keeper Ted Claxton, Meadowhead went down the other end and doubled their advantage through Harry Grimmer. Using the momentum, Meadowhead scored again, moments later, when Harry Grimmer’s ball into the box was turned into his own net by a despairing Shafton defender. Not content with three before half time, Fraser Russell scored a superb goal with a left footed blast into the top corner after a brilliant step-over past the full-back before Ben Hulton’s tackle fell invitingly for Ehsan Mohammed, who played a delicious through-ball into Harry Grimmer who rifled a right footed drive into the bottom corner.

The second half proved tougher for us but Meadowhead still kept their second successive clean sheet and they bagged another two goals in the process through a tap-in for Louis Hutchinson and again for Harry Grimmer, earning his third consecutive hat-trick after Jack Morton’s shot rebounded straight to Harry’s feet. Meadowhead fly into the South Yorkshire Cup Final, hungry for revenge over Ecclesfield who defeated us on penalties last year.
