Y9 Basketball v King Edwards Vll

On Thursday 19th December 2013 the Meadowhead Y9 basketball team were visitors to the hosts King Edward VII. The tip-off was unfortunately lost, however, Meadowhead soon found their feet by securing a first field goal putting Meadowhead 2 points ahead. Meadowhead continued to dominate the first half despite various shots executed by King Edward’s key player.

Yet, showing frustration several free throws were awarded against King Edwards of which were scored by skilled Connor McFarlane and the play manoeuvring (MOM) Liam Reynolds with fantastic defending support from Mark Wray and the two forwards Zack Lambrou and Adam Ryan, thus ended the first half with Meadowhead: 11-0 up.

The second half started 13-1 due to the Y7s playing their first quarter, and Zack Lambrou and Adam Ryan were substituted off for Kane Storer and Cameron Slack. The beginning of the second half was stuttered as Meadowhead unluckily conceded 3 field goals. However, the red jerseys soon scraped back a considerably large lead utilising a second substitution opportunity and a time out to review the situation and apply a suitable tactic. During this time Zack and Adam were brought back on from the bench. After two three-pointers were scored for Meadowhead the score was 19-7 to Meadowhead.

The score stayed this way as the Y7 team played the final quarter. This performance was a great start for Meadowhead as they sealed their first league win.
