National Cup R3 Y10 vs West Park

In the third round of the national cup, Meadowhead’s Y10s took on their most challenging opponents this season in the form of West Park School from Derby. We knew from the very start that it would be a challenge. However, it was West Park who took the lead with an excellent free kick into the top corner, but minutes later, Louis Hutchinson burst down the line and fired a shot which the keeper could only parry and Harry Grimmer was on hand to smash in the rebound.

From then on, it was all Meadowhead and goalkeeper Ted Claxton was a bystander as Meadowhead pushed for the winning goal. However, the West Park goalkeeper was in magnificent form, saving several one-on-ones, blocking countless crosses and pulling off some miraculous point blank saves. So, despite having two shots cleared off the line and creating all of the chances, Meadowhead could not prevent the match from going into extra time.

The first half finished with few chances and the game looked certain for penalties. But with two minutes to go, Louis Hutchinson flew down the left wing, took a touch and prodded the ball into the bottom left corner to give Meadowhead a thoroughly deserved victory. However, although it was in no doubt that Meadowhead had gone through, there was still enough time for Harry Grimmer to miss an open goal from a yard out, much to the amusement of him, Mr Allen and the rest of team but not to his dad, who did not look impressed!

The result was never in doubt though, as Meadowhead reached Round 4 of the national cup and their next opponents will be from Mansfield at home.
