Leicester City’s Sam Tierney launches our Girls Football Scholarship

We were delighted to launch our Sixth Form girls football scholarship programme which will run at Meadowhead School from September 2024.  The official launch was on Tuesday 19th March, and we welcomed the Leicester City Captain, Sam Tierney into school.

Sam spoke about her experience in the women’s game and took questions from an audience of aspiring footballers.  The students also got the opportunity to take selfies and have their leaflets signed!  Special thanks go to Sam for her time and inspirational talk.

Next, there will be a free open training session for girls in Y7-Y12 on Tuesday 26th March at St Georges Park – Graves from 4pm-5pm.  This event is open to all students – not just those currently at Meadowhead School.

The girls football scholarship opportunity will run alongside our already very successful boys programme. This is a unique chance for talented 16-18 year old footballers to secure a realistic pathway into professional/semi-professional football whilst studying at Meadowhead Sixth Form.

Mr Whitaker was interviewed on BBC Sheffield on Tuesday morning about the new girls football scholarship programme.  You can listen back here https://mhsch.uk/bbcsounds (skip to between 1:52:29-1:59:35) and you will hear two Meadowhead alumni who we are very proud of: Ellie Colton (2010-2017), the breakfast show host asking the questions, and Lewis Whitaker (2005-2010) explaining it all.
