Brearley Furnaces win Sports Day Cup while Pearson Falcons retain the Cook Shield

On Thursday 16th July, we were delighted to welcome Ken Cook CBE, Meadowhead’s first headteacher, to lead the presentations of the Cook Shield and the Sports Day Cups.
Mr Cook was first appointed deputy headteacher to our predecessor school, Jordanthorpe, in 1973 and as headteacher led the process of a merger to create Meadowhead in the late 1980s.
This year, the shield that bears Mr Cook’s name was retained by Pearson Falcons for the fourth consecutive year – the Falcons achieved the best overall conduct score which was combined with points for house events held during the year. In the same ceremony, the Brearley Furnaces captains were presented with the Sports Day Cup – their first ever major trophy since the house system began in 2022.
The Furnaces also won the Sports Day shields in Y7 and Y8, while the Douglass North Stars won in Y9. Thanks to all students for their positive contributions to their house on Sports Day and their good conduct throughout the academic year.
