MFL at KS3

KS3 builds on the foundation of any transferable skills gained as part of students’ Primary Language experiences. Students will be assessed in listening, reading, speaking and writing throughout the year, including translation and grammar. Students are expected to learn vocabulary regularly as part of their homework.

In Y7 all students study one language from either German, French or Spanish. Classes are set according to KS2 data.

We cover a wide area of topics, such as:

German: My world, My School, An Active Life
French: At the Beginning, My Family, My Home
Spanish: My details, My School, Where I live

Students acquire new vocabulary and transferable language skills that they can build on in Y8.

In Y8 all students continue with their language. Classes are mainly set according to Y7 data and there is a clear focus on knowledge expansion.

Topics covered by the Y8 Schemes of Work include:

German: My town, Where I live, Food and Drink, My Holidays

Students acquire new vocabulary and transferable language skills that they can build on in Y9.

In Y9 all students continue with their language. Classes are mainly set according to Y8 data and the content of the course builds on topics covered in Y7 and Y8 to practise, embed and expand gained knowledge and skills to prepare students for the demands of the KS4 GCSE course. The assessments will prepare students to make informed choices about their GCGSE options. Students are expected to learn vocabulary regularly as part of their homework.
