The Prince of Wales visits Meadowhead School and Sixth Form

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales greets pupils at Meadowhead school

We were delighted to welcome The Prince of Wales to our school this morning, July 1st 2025, for a visit arranged to mark the school’s participation in a pilot of the Upstream project, a project designed to offer targeted support and early intervention for young people and their families.

The project is led by Homewards, part of the Royal Foundation, and is being delivered in Sheffield by the local housing charity Roundabout, with which the school has a long-running and fruitful partnership.

The Prince of Wales was joined for the visit by the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson MP.

His Royal Highness and the Secretary of State for Education joined a roundtable discussion in the Rosling with local partners and other participants in the Upstream project.

The guests also joined Mrs Burley’s form 9L as they took part in a workshop about homelessness led by Roundabout and the Prince of Wales met with a young person in the school’s Sixth Form Common Room who has benefitted from a parallel Upstream pilot project at Eastern High School in Cardiff. During the visit, all students were able to gather to give the Prince a warm Meadowhead welcome and he kindly took time to speak with many students. We were also able to showcase to the Prince of Wales and to the Secretary of State the school’s Make a Difference culture and values which sees students regularly engaged in social action projects. The visit ended with a presentation of a sculpture of a school’s Phoenix logo by Marissa and Alfie in Y9.

Kam Grewal-Joy, the school’s Headteacher said of the visit:

“Today, was an incredibly proud occasion for the school and it was wonderful to be able to showcase our students who are always so keen to make a difference across a wide range of topics and issues.  We were delighted to be approached to pilot the Upstream Project that targets the necessary support at an early stage for young people and it is clear that this work has the chance to make a real and lasting impact on the lives of young people in Sheffield and nationally. I would like to thank His Royal Highness and the Secretary of State for their time and for everyone who helped make such a memorable day possible. We will continue to work with Roundabout and the Homewards project team from the Royal Foundation in the months and years ahead.”
