IGD skills & strengths workshop

In conjunction with our alumni network (Future First), the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) ran a workshop in school on Tuesday 8th March 2016. It was led by former student Fiona Simpson and 36 of our Y9 students beneftted from this, with the theme of “What are my skills and strengths? Can they get me a job?”

Volunteers from IGD worked with the students in small groups to get them thinking about what they are good at, what they enjoy and how these can help in the world of work.  Students were quizzed on how many jobs they thought are in the food industry and realised how very varied these could be, including Graphic Designer, Coffee Barista and Abattoir Slaughterer!  As volunteers moved from group to group, students had to practice their handshakes and complete ‘A Picture of Me’, mapping out their positive qualities, skills, experiences and aspirations.
