EDEXCEL BTEC Level 2 First Award Performing Arts (Dance) - September 2018

What will I do on this course?

In this course you will perform in a wide variety of dance styles.

• You will acquire and develop technical and expressive skills.
• You will monitor and evaluate your own progress and set targets for improvement.
• Gain experience in preparing and performing for an audition.

You will study the following units:

• Component 1: Exploring Performing Arts
• Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts
• Component 3: Performing to a Brief

How will I be assessed?

• You will learn set sequences of movement and perform in short dance pieces both as a group and as an individual.
• You also have to complete a written reviews and research logs.
• There is no written exam however there is an external deleted word assessment that will be completed in year 11.

What skills do I need?

• Enjoy dancing and be willing to learn new skills and techniques.
• The confidence to perform on your own, in groups and in front of other pupils and assessors.
• To work in group situations in a co-operative manner.
• To participate in three hours of practical work per week.

Any other essential information?

• You will be required to wear black dance trousers, black top and perform barefoot for all lessons.
• This course can lead to BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts, ‘A’ Level & Degree.
• This BTEC qualification gains the equivalent points of 1 GCSE A*-C grade.
• Students can only do one of BTEC Level 2 First Award Performing Arts: Acting or Dance.
