Y9 vs King Ecgbert School

Meadowhead’s second match of the week was against top of the league King Ecgberts so Meadowhead Y9’s knew they would need to be on top form to beat them. From the first whistle, Meadowhead were throwing men into challenges and were playing with purpose and style in their brand new green and white Adidas kit.

The first goal came from a deflected shot from Matt Beck, who was full of confidence from his man of the match performance against Silverdale the day before. Meadowhead bagged a second goal through Harry Grimmer who ran onto Ben Hulton’s through ball to slide the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs but only after Ted Claxton pulled off a magnificent point-blank save with his right hand to keep the clean sheet intact.

At the beginning of the second half, Meadowhead instantly bagged another goal through Harry Grimmer, poking home into an empty net after capitalizing on a goalkeeping error. From then on, the game became evenly matched and Meadowhead had to call for another unbelievable save from Ted Claxton from yet another one-on-one where the odds were piled completely against him.

Determined not to have to rely on heroic goalkeeping to get them out of trouble again, Meadowhead went straight down the other end and made it 4-0 when Harry Grimmer took on 3 players and pulled an inviting ball back for Ben Hulton to smash into the roof of the net before Harry ensured his second hat-trick in as many days, as he fired an unstoppable right-footed effort into the top corner to put Meadowhead top of the league in what Mr Allen described as “the best team performance of the season”.
