Y9s v Bradfield

In Meadowhead Y9’s first ever Sheffield Cup semi final, we were determined to reach the final if we prevailed past Bradfield to miss a full Friday afternoon off school! It was Meadowhead who started the brightest, creating chance after chance with Ethan Holloway heading just wide and Harry Grimmer grazing the crossbar but the breakthrough just wouldn’t come and then, completely against the run of play, Bradfield took the lead after a loose ball fell to their centre midfielder who curled it into the bottom corner just before half-time.

However, this did not put Meadowhead off as they came out firing in the second half to score two goals in two minutes, both assisted by Ehsan Mohammed and both clinically converted by Joe Oxley to make it 3 goals in 2 games for the in-form right-back. Meadowhead seemed in control of the game and looked like seeing the match out but with 10 minutes remaining, a cross was turned in at the back post by Bradfield to make it 2-2 with not long remaining. Meadowhead though, one minute later, went straight down the other end with Louis Hutchinson who took on 4 players before blasting into the bottom corner.

From then on, Meadowhead really showed their class: Ben Hulton slid a through ball for Harry Grimmer to score a one-on-one before Louis Hutchinson snatched his second goal of the game after a goal-line scramble and Matt Beck headed in from a looping Louis Hutchinson cross. Although it was hard work at the beginning, Meadowhead finally make it through for their first ever Sheffield Cup Final in what is proving to be their best season yet.
