Y9 vs The Dearne ALC

In the quarterfinals of the South Yorkshire Cup, Meadowhead’s Y9’s faced another Barnsley side in the form of the Dearne ALC for a place against Shafton ALC in the semi finals. Despite a slow start which resulted in conceding a very early goal, Meadowhead were the only team in the match from there on with an Ehsan Mohammed corner being headed home by Fraser Russell shortly before Harry Grimmer scored a ‘goal of the season’ contender with a wonderful solo goal to put us in front.

As half time approached, Louis Hutchinson produced a piece of magic by taking on three players and squaring the ball to Ehsan Mohammed who turned his man and fired the ball through the goalkeepers legs. By this point, Meadowhead seemed to relax and the home side capitalised by grabbing a consolation goal just before half time.

However, in the second half, Meadowhead were in firm control and could have had a handful of goals but only one came. Another Ehsan Mohammed corner was whipped into the box and this time, Joe Oxley was in the right place at the right time to volley into an unguarded goal to guarantee a well-earned Meadowhead victory and a chance to reach their third successive South Yorkshire Final if they win their next match.
