Y9s vs Ashfield National Cup Round 5

Round five of the national cup. Ashfield school of Mansfield. Meadowhead School of Sheffield. It doesn’t come any bigger than this. And the Y9’s knew it and started brilliantly from the first whistle, setting up two great chances for Louis Hutchinson in the opening five minutes but the inform striker was unable to convert on this rare occasion.

Pressure after pressure brought the breakthrough in the shape of Ehsan Mohammed after Jack Morton burst down the right wing and teed up Ehsan who improvised to score with his thigh from close range. And seconds after, Louis Hutchinson intercepted from the centre; pelted down the centre and pulled it back for Ehsan Mohammed to secure his brace and give Meadowhead a two goal margin at half time.

In the second half, it was more of the same from Meadowhead: tireless pressure. Aaron Mushet played a lofted through ball over the top for Louis Hutchinson to chase onto and wrap his foot around and blast a left footed rocket into the top corner. From then on, Ashfield began to roll their sleeves up and put the pressure on the untroubled visitor’s defence. They did indeed pull a goal back through a controversial penalty but by then, the match was beyond doubt and Meadowhead nearly scored a fourth when both Louis Hutchinson had a shot cleared off the line and Aaron Mushet dragged an excellent effort just wide.

Nothing could deny Meadowhead from charging into the final 32 in the country- their personal best and hopefully we can strive further!
