Meadowhead Women’s Scholars 4–0 Notre Dame College Leeds

This result means that our Meadowhead Women’s Scholars sealed the league title with a superb 4–0 home win over Notre Dame College Leeds, capping off an outstanding season for the team.

After a strong defensive first half, Sophie broke the deadlock with five minutes to go before the break, calmly lobbing the goalkeeper from distance. Meadowhead carried that momentum into the second half, dominating the game. Evie O finished off a brilliant team move before Sophie added her second with a clever finish. Abi then wrapped up the scoring to complete a fantastic performance.

A special mention goes to Poppy, who missed the match through injury but has contributed massively to the team’s success this season.

A brilliant achievement from an outstanding group, with one final league game to go away at KW2.

This was a huge event and an incredible opportunity for our leaders. They had a brilliant time and did a fantastic job as always.

Meadowhead Women’s Scholars continued their excellent league form with a superb 5–2 home victory over KW2 Academy, producing another dominant and confident display.

The gaffer introduced a new system for this game, and the team adapted brilliantly — showing great understanding, discipline, and teamwork throughout. The back three were immense, winning all their battles and laying the foundation for some outstanding, free-flowing football going forward.

The Meadowhead Women’s Scholars made the perfect start to their season at the beginning of September with an excellent 3–0 victory away at KW2 Academy in their first ever game together.

From the first whistle, Meadowhead impressed with their energy, organisation, and quality all over the pitch. The squad worked tirelessly for each other, showing real promise as a new team and producing a strong collective performance with several standout displays.

The breakthrough came through Annie, who calmly slotted home to give Meadowhead a deserved lead. Soon after, Evie doubled the advantage with a sharp finish after a well-worked move. Annie then capped off a superb team performance by adding her second of the game late on in the first half, securing the win and her brace.

Roller Derby Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlotte, who competed at the Roller Derby World Cup held in Brisbane, Australia over the summer.

We are thrilled that Team GB placed 3rd, which is the first time GB have been placed in the competitions 20 year history.

Charlotte and her family thanked staff and supporters who helped her fundraise to get her to the competiton in Australia. An amazing achievement!

Sports Day 2025

On Tuesday 8th July, Meadowhead’s distinctive and extensive Sports Day took over the our site and it again proved a highlight of the academic year.

Around one thousand Meadowhead students took part: each competing in three sports during the day looking to score points for their house - Brearley Furnaces, Sharman Rockets, Douglass North Stars and Pearson Falcons.

The day began with the customary banner parade accompanied by a broadcast from Mr Knowles on Phoenix FM. Some of the banners carried aloft in the parade this year were simply outstanding. The winning house was announced in a special virtual assembly on Thursday 16th July: Douglass North Stars were presented with the Sports Day Cup for the third time in four years!

Thanks to our Health, Fitness and Wellbeing teachers and the rest of the Meadowhead staff for their help putting the day together and well done to our students for the exemplary behaviour and attitudes that were on display.

This Girl Can

A huge thank you to our amazing senior sport leaders who assisted at the ‘This Girl Can’ event at the end of June, held at the EIS (English Institute of Sport). They helped in the running of the event but clearly got themselves right in the thick of it.

Our amazing Y9 girls absolutely smashed the This Girl Can event too! From a glow rave to boxing, ice skating, parkour and even a colour run — they gave 100% to every activity and truly embraced the day.

They were brilliant throughout and it was so great to see them having fun, pushing themselves, and showing what they’re made of.

Huge congratulations to our Y8 Rounders team who came out on top at the beginning of June in the triangular, winning both games against King Ecgbert’s School and Firth Park Academy!

Their fantastic communication, unshakeable determination and team spirit shone through from start to finish! The girls have been committed to practice this term - a level of dedication which has clearly paid off!!

Huge congratulations to our Y7 Netball team for an incredible season! Out of 33 schools in the league, they made it all the way to the play-off finals—finishing 8th overall. What a brilliant achievement!

A special shoutout to E. Shaw, named Girl of the Tournament, for her outstanding performance and versatility, even outside of her usual shooting role—such talent!

Phoenix win Clegg Shield

On Wednesday 22nd April 2025, the Y11 boys football team won the Clegg Shield at Hallam FC’s Sandygate ground with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tapton School. The Clegg Shield is the oldest schools’ football trophy in the world and it was fitting that the final was played at the oldest football ground in the world still in continuous use. The win marked a culmination of five excellent years for the group and after runner-up finishes for the previous two Y11 boys teams, it will be great to see such a prestigious trophy return to the cabinet in the Rosling.

Espanyol Trip 2025

A massive thank you to all 115 students that made the trip to Salou, and to the staff who accompanied them.

Our students' attitude and conduct throughout the trip was exemplary and they have done Meadowhead proud. It was a trip full of laughs, fun and football.

Match Report - Meadowhead Girls Football Academy March 2025

In what was the penultimate match of the season for the girls’ scholarship team, the players fought hard despite challenging circumstances. From the outset, it took us some time to get into the game. With only 8 players available compared to the opposition’s 9, we had to dig deep to stay competitive.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, we managed to hold the opposition to a narrow 2-1 lead at half-time. Our defensive organisation and commitment were key in keeping the scoreline close, and we showed great resilience under pressure!

Golf Tournament success!

In March 2025, two of our Year 8 students, Oliver and Chloe, took part in the South Yorkshire Schools Golf Tournament at Wheatley Golf Club. It was an incredibly successful day, and we are so proud of their involvement in this prestigious event!

Chloe scored 41 points and Oliver scored 33 points, bringing their team total to 74 – the highest score of all the schools in the competition!

Thanks to their impressive performance, Chloe and Oliver have qualified for the Yorkshire final, which will take place on 28th April 2025.

In addition to their team success, Chloe was also awarded the individual title of Under 16 Girls winner.

Both students had an exceptional day and were a true credit to Meadowhead School. We are immensely proud of their achievements and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming Yorkshire Schools tournament!

Big Sister Project

The Year 7 team showed tremendous dedication and skill in the final night of the Sheffield Schools 5-a-Side competition at Goals Sheffield. Despite being faced with tough opposition, the students displayed outstanding teamwork and determination throughout the matches.

It was clear that each player gave their best, supporting each other on and off the pitch. Their resilience, positive attitude, and passion for the game were truly impressive and a credit to the school.

A fantastic effort from all involved – well done!

A first place win at the Nottingham Ice Centre

Meadowhead Girls Football Academy

The team kicked off the year in style at the beginning of February with an emphatic 9-2 win against Calderdale College, showing great strength and determination throughout. We came out of the gates fast, scoring within the first minute and quickly taking a 2-0 lead. However, the opposition responded well, netting two goals to level the score at 2-2.

Undeterred, we regained control and went into the break with a solid 4-2 advantage. The second half was all ours, as we continued to press forward and scored five more goals with ease.

A fantastic team performance all around – well done to everyone! This dominant victory is the perfect start to the year and sets the tone for what’s to come.

Trampolining competition congratulations!

Lucy, one of our Y12 students, and Ella, a Y9 student, both competed at the Yorkshire Schools Trampolining competition in Bradford in November 2024, and have qualified for the Northern Zonal competition in South Shields in January.

Lucy finished 4th in the Year 10-14 Elite category finished in 4th and Ella finished 3rd in the Year 7-9 Elite Category.

Both girls represented the school and themselves really well, and we are very proud of their achievements. Well done to the pair of them!

Clegg Shield 4-3 Thriller!

In a game that had everything, Meadowhead School’s Year 11 Phoenixs battled to a huge 4-3 win over Silverdale in the Clegg Shield at the end of November. The game, played in tough conditions, was a true showcase of determination, skill, and sportsmanship, with both sides earning credit for their schools.
