Meadowhead Sixth Formers achieve best ever results

Today, sixth form students at Meadowhead School collected their A Level and Level 3 BTEC results. We are proud to share that our students achieved phenomenal results across the board, the students’ results for both for A Level and BTEC qualifications were above the national average and across almost all qualifications. Yet again, there was a 100% pass rate. Following recent media coverage about the government’s policy of reining in grade inflation in order to bring results gradually back to a pre-pandemic level, it is particularly pleasing that Meadowhead students continue to perform well above their peers nationally.

Nearly three quarters of all grades achieved this year at A level by Meadowhead students were A*-B.  The average grade for A level is an A- which is a significant jump from the last three years.  Those students who completed vocational courses are also celebrating similar successes and the average BTEC grade is now a distinction+ which is equivalent to an A level grade A.   Students’ attainment levels have exceeded all previous years and most subjects have seen a significant increase in the percentage of students achieving the top grades. Students from across the ability range have achieved results that are a credit to them, demonstrating great resilience. In many cases students exceeded their predicted grades and have comfortably secured places in their chosen university. Subjects with the highest percentage of top grades this year were Chemistry, Computing, EPQ, French, Further Maths, Geography, German, History, Maths, Physics, Sociology, Business, ICT, Performing Arts and Sport.

Headteacher, Mrs Kam Grewal-Joy is delighted with the record results, she said “It is our best set of results yet and shows that Meadowhead Sixth Form is truly outstanding.  This is a wonderful achievement for students, staff and governors, and is testimony to their hard work and commitment. Well done to all our students and their supportive parents.  A huge thanks, also, to our dedicated staff who have worked tirelessly to help secure these successes. 2022 is proving to be a great year for the school with the recent Ofsted Good judgement and now the Year 13 successes will give the whole school community another boost. As a school we are proud of the exceptional standards reached by our students and the ways in which Meadowhead students have fulfilled their potential at the school.  It is a proud day in the history of the school and a proud day for these youngsters and their families.  We will continue to build on these successes to ensure that Meadowhead School becomes the outstanding school our community deserves.”

These spectacular results build on the strengths such as careers advice, curriculum offer and work with universities and employers that were identified in a recent Ofsted visit. The Ofsted inspectors commented in their report that “students in the sixth form benefit from expert support that helps them to make decisions about their next steps.” We are proud of the progress of all of our students and look forward to hearing about the exciting adventures that await them in the future.
