As a school, we join in to mark this annual international day which celebrates books in all forms and the joy of reading.

Celebrations have included:

• staff dressing up as their favourite character
• students joining in a 'Thumbs Up to Reading' campaign (including having their photo taken with their chosen book plus a big thumbs up!)
• students choose a book to show in front of a green screen - then technology transforms this to show the power of the book taking us to different times, places and worlds!
• various competitions, such a book treasure hunts, first lines, design a poster, taking a 'Shelfie'
• creative writing, such as using 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' as inspiration.
• all students who want one were given a £1 world book day token to get a free £1 book or money off one of their choice in bookshops
